Daniel Hornby / Byhorn Design
Experience behind
every detail.
I am an independent graphic and web designer in Cheadle, combining creative thinking with practical knowledge of pre-press, production and how finished design is really used.
01 / Where it began
A design career grounded in real production.
My early professional experience taught me that a good idea has to survive every stage between the screen and the finished item.
Sinclair International, Norwich
From June 1999 to September 2009, I worked in graphic design at Sinclair International. I created fruit-label concepts and finished artwork for markets across the UK, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East and Asia, carrying work from the initial idea through pre-press and production.
The role also covered brochures, flyers, web banners, photo manipulation and trade-show material. I worked closely with Sales and Marketing, label production, suppliers and overseas offices—experience that still shapes the clear, production-aware way I approach projects today.

Continued taking on independent creative work alongside my wider employment.
02 / More than appearance
Creative ideas, backed by technical understanding.
Design decisions are stronger when they account for the people, tools and production stages that follow.
Pre-press awareness
Artwork developed with output, format, legibility and supplier requirements in mind.
Technical confidence
Apple Mac software support for UK and US colleagues strengthened my practical problem-solving.
Direct collaboration
Years of working across teams, suppliers and overseas offices made clear communication part of the process.
03 / Independent work
Freelance design kept the creative side moving.
Alongside other roles, I continued creating logos, promotional materials, artwork and ideas for businesses and community projects. That mix of professional production experience and hands-on freelance work eventually became the foundation for Byhorn Design.
Today, clients work directly with me. There is no account-management layer: the person discussing the brief is the person developing the design and preparing the final result.

05 / What that means for clients
Design made to leave the screen.
The aim is not simply to make one polished image. It is to create something useful, consistent and ready for the place it needs to work.
Think in systems
A logo, website, flyer or social post should feel connected rather than designed in isolation.
Plan the handover
File formats, dimensions and production requirements are agreed as part of the job.
Keep it personal
A clear brief, direct feedback and a tailored quote keep the process straightforward.
